Joe Scarborough’s Delusion

Part One of my “Sorry Joe” series

I’m a regular viewer of Morning Joe. I’ve been watching Mr. Scarborough’s MSNBC morning show, whom he co hosts with his wife Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, for several years.

Mr. Scarborough is entertaining. He is loud, passionate, witty, confrontational and boisterous. I might even call him a character. He is also likeable and folksy, something he leans into with his stories about his childhood growing up down South. Mr. Scarborough has a band he plays guitar in, and he manages to talk about his beloved Boston Red Sox as often as he can, much to the bemusement of his wife. In addition, he loves to remind his audience of his former days as a Republican congressman, especially the time he was part of a Republican caucus who challenged then Republican Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich.

Mr. Scarborough apparently isn’t a republican anymore. Moreover, he is highly critical of the current Republican party, in particular, Trump MAGA republicans.

I enjoy that Mr. Scarborough.

Unfortunately, we also get what I like to call, “the Misguided” Joe Scarborough. That’s the side of Mr. Scarborough who couldn’t be more misinformed if he tried, especially when he thinks he is “a voice of reason” on a controversial social or political topic.

Today was no exception, as he lectured Republicans and Democrats equally. Nonetheless some of his criticism aimed at Democrats was ridiculous :

“Democrats have badly mishandled the southern border over the past several years, horribly. It’s just that the issue doesn’t seem to matter at all to them; it matters to most Americans. Americans believe that if you come into America you need to come into America legally. That’s where most Americans are. If that shocks you, you need to wake up.

Now I don’t know if the Biden Administration has done a poor job on immigration, or not. Mr. Scarborough may have a legitimate point. It’s certainly a topic that’s worthy of discussion, analysis and debate.

But Mr. Scarborough pretending to tell Democrats something they don’t know already is arrogant and unnecessary.

Legal immigration is something any reasonable and rational person would like and support. That’s so obvious you could probably explain it to a fifth grader. But what Democrats won’t do is sacrifice their value of human lives and human decency to do it. Nor will they fall for the recent deplorable abuse of migrants that Republican governors DeSantis and Abbott have engaged in.

Here’s what escapes Mr. Scarborough’s thought process. It isn’t important to just solve a problem. It matters just as much, if not more, how you solve it.

Sorry Joe, but you’re not smarter than the rest of us. In addition, you didn’t help or educate anyone because all you did was tell us something we already know. In fact, you probably obscured what’s really important and made the problem worse for people who genuinely want to improve the American immigration system.
