As a male member of FetLife, tho I rarely visit the site anymore, I can't comment much on how well it's managed...but it wouldn't surprise me that the overall BDSM lifestyle is problematic and attracts abusive, predatory men who want to take advantage of women as so called, "Doms".

I got started in the lifestyle over fifteen years ago when I joined an online BDSM group... the leader talked and taught about "respect and dignity" of submission and the subs, but the group fell apart when it was discovered he was using and abusing the women he was supposed to be "mentoring."

So lots of caution is probably needed anytime you place your physical, emotional, and mental health in someone else's hands...
